A big thank you to one and all involved

Ade accepts a much welcome cheque from Northern Rock

To all of you kind hearted people, who so generously gave to Asthma UK through your entry fees and voluntary donations on entry forms, and to those of you who kindly sponsored the folk who took part in our inaugral run - a great big thank you to you all.

As a result of your contributions and the wonderful act of generosity from the Northern Rock charity foundation who trebled every pound raised, we have accumulated a massive sum of money for Asthma UK. The money collected prior to the run was over £10k weeks before the run date, then in the weeks that followed the run the sponsor money collected started pouring in! Figures ranging from £ 1 to £ 500, all of which were also trebled by Northern Rock, we soon hit the £25k and then a staggering final figure of £30k was passed.

Over the same weekend history was made, and more money was raised, at the main event as the cricket club held the Cricket Marathon which took the Guinness World Record at 34 hours for endurance cricket. A magnificant feat of which all should be proud. More details on the Cricket 2007 World Record here.

Lots more hard work was put into this weekend by "The Jolly Girls" who raised thousands of £'s through gruelling bag packing sessions at Morrisons in Morpeth as well as running stalls at the Red Row Welfare too! All of the individual funds have been pooled together and totalled and the Red Row Sports Club is very proud to announce that the sum of £ 45,000 has been handed to Asthma UK in memory of young David Griffiths.

Also lets pay credit to all of the other parties who made our inaugral run such a success, Graham Micheson and his staff along with Northumberland County Council for providing the superb facilities at Druridge Bay Country Park, Jackqui Moscrop and all her colleagues at Alnwick Harriers without whos help and advice the run would not have been as professionally run. Also the Morpeth Harriers for more help and advice regarding run organization. Rapid Response for providing the peace of mind of first aid cover, free of charge. Broomhill Army Cadets for being sterling helpers at the event, erecting tents, marshalling throughout the course, manning the water station and litter picking and Northumbria Water for providing 1,000 bottles of water!

In closing the thanks I would like to add the Committee Members at Red Row Sports Club who supported myself as fun run co-ordinator, all the way through from the first meeting and across the finishing line.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all of you, in what ever shape or form the help was given in, everything came together to make an excellent weekend for all involved and not only set a new World Record but also raised a stunning amount of money for a very worthy cause.

Many thanks, Ade Barras
